About Teresa
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Universal City, TX providing individual and group counseling. I am client-centered in my approach to therapy which simply means that I consider the person sitting in front of me the expert of his/her own strengths, starting point, story and goals. I have significant training and experience working with people experiencing mood disorders, anxiety, navigating transitions and processing trauma.
I provide therapy for individuals by holding space for growth and change while incorporating a variety of therapeutic modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness techniques. I’m also trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE), and EMDR, which are evidenced based trauma therapies.
Counseling can be a safe space to “gather oneself”, to sort through and address whatever issues you are facing. I find it such an honor to come alongside folks as they share their story, gain insights, move toward healing and begin to feel more alive and at home in their own lives.
I obtained both my bachelors degree and masters degree in Social Work from the University of Georgia. I began working in the mental health field in 1991. Before opening my private practice my experiences included working as a sexual assault coordinator in a community mental health agency, directing a children’s day treatment program and facilitating Air Force family health and wellness as a civil servant.
In more recent years I’ve worked at BAMC, with active duty service members, providing addiction medicine and mental health counseling. I’ve also assisted patients during acute psychiatric hospitalization, by providing counseling and case management services. And I’ve worked with folks transitioning out of federal prison by providing mental health counseling. I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to work with different people engaging in growth and transformation!
